The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
for your home is basically similar to the certificates found on many domestic appliances (see below).
The certifcate gives the building an asset rating based on its energy efficiency but does not take into account how the home is used by the occupants. It is intended to inform owners and potential purchasers of the energy performance of a property.
EPC's will be produced to a standard format thus providing a standard and unambiguous presentation very similar to that so successfully used on new refrigerators, washing machines and other white goods. Ratings will be given between 1 and 100 where 1 is the poorest and 100 the most efficient. These ratings are sub divided into colour coded groups listed A to G (A is the best 92 to 100 and G is the poorest 0 to 20)
Should yours have an A rating then your home has the highest rating for efficiency with resultant lower fuel bills. The G rating is the lowest with the highest costs. The certificate also displays the environmental impact of your home through its carbon emissions.
